Eats: Everyday Green Smoothie

Certain foods have an extra benefit to your eye health, in addition to your overall health. Think dark, leafy greens and colourful fruits and veggies. Here's a quick smoothie recipe to incorporate some of these beneficial ingredients into your diet.
*Oh, and if your kids dislike greens like mine do, try smoothies. They work in my house!*
𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐞:
1 banana
1 cup of dark greens (baby spinach and/or kale)
handful of berries (I use a mix of raspberries and strawberries, sometimes blackberries)
almond milk (or milk of choice)
dash of turmeric (optional)
hemp seeds (optional)
flax seeds (optional)
protein powder (optional - I use VegaOne Chocolate)

Dark leafy greens: antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin
Berries: antioxidants beta carotene, lutein, vits a, c, e and zeaxanthin
Hemp seeds: rich in omega-3 and omega-6
Flax seeds: rich source of omega-3
Lutein and zeaxanthin are antioxidants that help protect your eyes against age related eye diseases such as macular degeneration.
Omega-3s are naturally anti-inflammatory and known to help manage dry eye disease as well as reduce the risk of age related macular degeneration.
